Corozal Town is one of the prominent towns situated on the coast of Corozal Bay and it gained the status of town during 1840s and most part of the town was constructed on the Maya City and after the deadly Hurricane Janet in 1955 the town was destroyed but later it was planned and reconstructed.

History of Corozal Town:
Corozal is one of the oldest inhabited regions in the country and was established in 1848 due to the war between Mestizos and Maya Indians. Between the years 1848 and 1856 more than 10,000 refugees settled in the region and later the region was inhabited by Spanish and they established the colonies. Corozal town was constructed on the ruins of Maya city and at present various modern buildings can be found in the town.
