Leon is the seat of Leon municipality in Guanajuato state of Mexico, is considered as the social and commercial capital of Guanajuato state, located around 390 km northwest of Mexico City. As per the order of Viceroy Martin Enriquez de Almanza, Juan Bautista de Orozco established Leon as village on 20^th January 1576.
