Isabela is one of the municipalities in Puerto Rico geographically positioned at 18°30′47″ N 67°04′12″ W. It is bounded by San Sebastian in the south, Aguadilla towards the west and Quebradillas in the east. Isabela is placed towards the north-western part of the island, about 115 km west of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico and is spread over an area of 238.15 sq. km.
Isabela is popularly called as ‘Jardín del Noroeste’ (Garden of the Northwest) due to the presence of a variety of wild flowers. Other popular names are ‘Pueblo de los Quesitos de Hoja’ and ‘la Ciudad de los Gallitos’. Isabela is also known for its cock fighting competitions and events.
History of Isabela:
Isabela was founded on May 21, 1819, and its major church’s construction process was also started in the same year, finally completed in 1824, once church was strongly damaged by earthquake in 1918 and later it was reconstructed with various specialties and is now the major historical identity of Isabela.

Isabela is served by Rafael Hernández Airport with direct flights from New York, Fort Lauderdale and Newark, served by JetBlue Airways, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines respectively. This airport is located around 20 km away from the downtown Isabela, and there are taxis always available at the airport and it takes half an hour from the airport to reach Isabela.
PR-2, State-Road 459 and State-Road 4466 are the major highways that connect Isabela with nearby cities including Aguada, San Juan and Arecibo.
