History of Padang:

From 16^th century Padang is the major trading hub and pepper exports to various countries like India, Portugal, United Kingdom and Netherlands and in the year 1663 Padang came under the Dutch rule and constructed the trading post and the trade continued till the year 1780. In the year 1797, Padang was badly hit by tsunami and coffee is the major crop in this region.
