Aktobe is sited on the Asian continent in the country, Kazakhstan towards the west. The place was once known by the name Shevchenko. Aktobe falls under the Aktobe Province and also forms the center of operation for the province. When translated to English the word Aktobe means “White Hill” indicating the heights were inhabited by man in the 19^th century. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 50⁰17’0” N and 57⁰10’0” E and covers an area of 400 km². Aktobe is situated 219 meters above the sea level.

History of Aktobe:

The Aktobe region, over time, bared witness to the rise and fall of various Empires and Cultures that once existed. After the construction of a fort within the Province during the year 1869, the region experienced the arrival of various settlements in and around Aktobe with people from other places migrating to this area. In the 19^th and 20^th century, Aktobe became a well civilized place. Technology such as the railway links were formed in the region before the onset of World War I. The place began to boom even as the war continued.

Aktobe city was almost brought to rubbles by the events that place, in the year 1905, during the Russian Revolution. The Bolshevik revolutionaries took the city under their control in the year 1918 on 8^th January and restored peace. Because of the railway link in Aktobe the region played an important role in the Russian Civil War during the period from 25^th October 1917 to 29^th October 1922 between the Red army and White opponents.
