After conquering Chittor and Ranthambore, the emperor decided to make Fatehpur Sikri his capital. It took him 15 years to build a fortified palace with courts, mosque and various other utilities within the boundaries of the palace. The word Fatehabad is derived from the Persian language meaning ‘Victory’. The emperor saw to it that most of the complex structural and design works were based on Persian principles. The city, Fatehpur Sikri happens to be one of the best architectural works planned and designed by the Mughals in India.
However in 1585, Fatehpur Sikri was abandoned because of scarcity of water. Also the region shared its borders with the kingdoms of Rajputs.
