Brega, also called Marsa al-Brega or Mersa Brega, is a coastal town located on the Gulf of Sidra in Libya. It falls under the Al Wahat District and holds the second-largest hydro-carbon complex of Libya. Brega is situated around 240 km southwest of the city of Benghazi and 780 km northwest of the national capital, Tripoli. Brega is home to the Al-Najm University of Technology and a significant oil refinery. Marsa Brega is geographically positioned between 30°26′6″ N latitude and 19°40′1″ E longitude, around 23 meters above sea level.

 

History of Brega:

As like many Libyan cities, Brega also witnessed the scene of the Western Desert Campaign of the Second World War. Brega had also seen disputes during the Libyan civil war, in which Brega continuously changed the hands between the Libyan opposition and loyalist forces.

 

Conenctivity to Brega:

Marsa Brega hosts an airport but currently there is no airlines serving airport. So international tourists are needed to reach Tripoli International Airport first and then they can use bus or rental car to get Brega.

The Tripoli International Airport operates flights from Malta, London, Rome, Dubai, Istanbul, Casablanca, Manchester and many other global destinations.

As its location on the major highway running between Tripoli and Benghazi, reaching Brega by road by bus wouldn’t be a difficult task for visitors.
