Dogondoutchi is a city belonging to the Dosso Region of Niger, located between 13°38′46″ N latitude and 4°01′44″ E longitude. It is the seat of the Dogondoutchi department, located near the Nigerian border, around 250 km east of the national capital, Niamey. Dogondoutchi is overlooked by the large “Dogon Doutchi” Mesa, and the city measures an altitude of 227 meters.

Dogondoutchi is a thriving trade centre and is also noted as a transportation center as its position on the road leading west to Niamey and east to Nigeria. Dogondoutchi is located in the vicinity of the village, called Lougou, which is the site of the battle fought between French forces and a local traditional group led by Sarraounia.

How to get Dogondoutchi?

Reaching Dogondoutchi by road would not be a difficult task for visitors as the city is situated on the highway called RN1, which connects Dogondoutchi to the west to Niamey and towards the east to the eastern Niger and nearby country Nigeria. Dogondoutchi can be reached by bus from Niamey.
