History of Umag:

Umag was established during the Roman rule, but it is mentioned from the 7th century and from 6th to 8th centuries the city was ruled by Byzantine emperor followed by Lombards in 751 and Francs in 774. Venice ruled the region for several years developing building, monuments, churches, forts can other monuments but in 1370 the Genovese navy destroyed the town’s archive and due to the fall of Venetian Emperor the town came under the rule of France who ruled until the year 1815.
