History of Letterkenny:

Letterkenny was established as market town in 17th century and the people of the region largely depends on agriculture. During the Rory O’Cannon, constructed the buildings and churches in the town and roads were developed for the growth of the market in the region. During the Norman occupation castles were constructed that can be still seen in the town. French forces tried to capture the Donegal County in 1798 but British army defeated the French. Letterkenny was granted the town status in the year 1920.
