Baotou is sited on the Asian continent in the country China in Mongolia. The meaning of Baotou in English is ‘place where the deer rests’ and hence the city has earned its name as ‘the Deer City’. This place is situated at the base of the mountains, Yinshan near to the banks of the Yellow River. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 40⁰39’ N and 109⁰50’ E. Baotou spans over an area of 27,769 km² and located at an elevation of 1,065 meters above sea level. Hohhot happens to be the capital of Inner Mongolia. During summer season the average temperature is 30⁰C and in winter temperature drop to below -14⁰C.

History of Baotou:

Archeological findings mentions, this place was once looked after by the nomads, known as the Mongols. It is the birthplace of a well known warrior, Lu Bu who belonged to the Han dynasty.

On 19^th September 1949, a rebellious event took place in the country, wherein Baotou fell in the hands of Communists who took control of the city.
