History of Ust-Kamenogorsk:
Ust-Kamenogorsk was established in the year 1720 on the banks of the river Ulba and fort was established in the region by Russian Emperor Peter the Great. Later in the year army of Russian constructed the new forts at the meeting point of two rivers Ulba and Irtysh and named as Kamennaya Fortress. Ust-Kamenogorsk was the capital of Semipalatinsk Oblast in the year 1868 and first hydroelectric plant was developed in the city by Georgy Malenkov. During the Soviet Rule city developed into major mining and metallurgical center. During the war the city was closed for the outsiders, as it was home for various rare minerals.
