History of Aqaba:
Aqaba is populated since 4000 BC and it was the trading route between Asia and Africa and the first inhabitants were the Edomites. Aqaba flourished under the Rule of Romans and later it came under the rule of Islamic Caliphate and was ruled by Umayyads, Abbasids, Fatimids and Mamluks dynasties. During the 16th century, the region came under the Ottoman Empire. During the World War I Ottoman was forced to leave the Aqaba and it under the rule of Sharif Hussein in the year 1917.
