Maun is a town belonging to the North-West District of Botswana, geographically positioned between 19°59′ S latitude and 023°25′ E longitude, around 850 km northwest of Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. It is considered as the “tourism capital” of Botswana as surrounded by national parks and game reserves.

Officially Maun still has village status, but its recent developments in tourism, shopping and hospitality industries have taken it towards becoming one of the major towns of Botswana. The town houses the branches of four multinational banks including Standard Chartered Bank. Maun is located at an altitude of 927 meters.

History of Maun:

Although founded in 1915, Maun hadn’t seen any substantial development until the construction of tar road from Nata in 1990 since then the town has been drawing loads tourists throughout the year and the square and cinderblock homes have been replaced the traditional rondavels of the town.

How to reach Maun?

The Maun Airport is served by Air Namibia, Airlink and Air Botswana with scheduled flights from Cape Town, Gaborone, Johannesburg, Kasane, Victoria Falls and Windhoek. The airport is located 5 km away from the heart of the city. There are shuttle buses regularly plying between the airport and town centre and taxis are also accessible for airport travel.

Maun is linked to all the major cities of Botswana including Gaborone through road by bus. Generally buses leave from Gaborone to Maun at 5:30am, 7:00am, and 11:30am.
