Bodrum is a port city as well as a district located in Muğla Province in the southwestern part of Aegean Region, Turkey, about 240 km south of Izmir and 420 km west of the global tourist destination, Antalya. History of Bodrum:

According to the archeological evidences, the Carians were the first inhabitants of Bodrum and the Greeks’ settlement in Bodrum dates back to 7th century BC. Bodrum was home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Mausoleum of Mausolus, now it is in ruined condition. Now Bodrum Castle is the historic identity of Bodrum.

Housed inside Bodrum Castle, the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology is internationally renowned museum housing great collection of objects found from underwater excavations of which the Uluburun Shipwreck is a highlight. This award winning museum was opened in 1961 and is open from Tuesday-Sunday from 9AM-7PM.

The Bodrum Amphitheatre:

The Bodrum Amphitheatre is located on the road to Gumbet. This Roman era’s archeological site is well preserved and is allowed for visitors every day. It is a great site to explore the archeological history of Bodrum.

Mausoleum at Halicarnassus:

Constructed between 353 and 350 BC, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, designed by Satyros and Pythius of Priene from Greece. Currently it is in ruined condition.
