History of Chongqing:

The first civilization began to evolve with the community of Ba people migrating from Yicheng because of the atrocities committed by the then ruler Chu. Chongqing was first known as Jiangzhou. During 316 B.C, the Qin Emperor took out an expedition and brought Chongqing under his control. The year 1890 witnessed the arrival of the European and the Japanese traders in Chongqing. The year 1937 marked the beginning of the 2^nd Sino-Japanese War which lasted till the year 1945. The local people put up a stiff resistance against the invading Japanese during the war and turned out victorious. Hence the place Chongqing earned the name City of Heroes.
