History of Elbasan:

Before the establishment of Ottoman rule in the region it was occupied by Illyrian tribes and Romans constructed the fort in the city and was the major trade and transport hub during the regime. Ottoman settled in the region in the year 1466 and they constructed massive fort and military camp was established in the city and they ruled until the independence of the country.
