Myanmar mostly known as Burma is a country on the Southeast Asian continent. Naypyidaw is the capital city of the country, Myanmar. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 19045’ N and 9606’ E. Myanmar spans over an area of 676,578 km2. Its neighboring countries are Bangladesh, Laos, China, India and Thailand. From the year 1962, Burma is under the control of the military. The currency of Myanmar is known as Kyat.
History of Myanmar:
In the 12th and 13th century, Myanmar was ruled by two great empires namely the Khmer Empire and the Pagan Empire. During the period 1277 to 1301, Myanmar was invaded by the Mongols. From the period 1824 to 1948, the country Myanmar was under the British rule. Various national events and riots took place in Myanmar in the name of national freedom struggle against the oppression of the then British Raj. 4th January 1948, witnessed the end of the British rule in Myanmar and marked the beginning of a new era in the history of Independent Myanmar. Military rule was enforced in Burma on 2nd March 1962. This rule ended in the year 1974. From 1974 to 1988 country was ruled by a one-party system. Many protest and riots took place till the year 2008 when the Burmese Constitutional Referendum of 2008. The name of the country was changed to Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Languages spoken by the people of Myanmar are Burmese, Jingpho, Kayah, Karen, Chin, Mon, Rakhine and Shan. However, Burmese is the official language of the country. There are different religions worshipped in the country, Myanmar. Majority of the population of Myanmar, worship Buddhism, while others either worship Islam, Hinduism, Christianity or Jewish.
