History of Piraeus:
Piraeus is inhabited since 26th century BC and in 6th century BC the region caught attention due to its natural harbor and during the Peloponnesian War, the town suffered from various attacks and Athens surrounded by Spartans in 404 BC. During the Ottoman occupation of Greece the town was renamed as Aslan Liman and later the population was decreased due to the wars near the port. After the establishment of Modern Greek state, due to its location close to Athens, Piraeus became more popular.
