Coimbatore is a 2nd largest city of Tamilnadu State and the district headquarters of Coimbatore District. It lies on the banks of the Noyyal River and is positioned about 411 meters from the mean level of the sea. The Pin Code of Coimbatore begins from 641001 and is located between 11°1′6″ north latitude and 76°58′21″ east longitude.
Coimbatore is popularly called as The ‘Manchester of South India’ because of its greater presence of top educational institutions and textile industries. Coimbatore is home to two Special Economic Zones namely the Coimbatore Hi-Tech Infrastructure and the Coimbatore TIDEL Park and ranks second in IT and BPO industry sector after state capital city Chennai. Coimbatore is also well known for its gold jewellery manufacturing units, houses more than 3000 jewellery production centers.
History of Coimbatore:-
Coimbatore has two derivations about its name origin. One is that the name received from Koyanputhur town and another one is that the name received after the Temple of Goddess Koniamman.
Coimbatore was ruled by several major dynasties like Sangam Cheras, Vijayanagara Empire, Madurai Nayak Dynasty and Mysore Kings. In the year 1799, the British East India Company conquered Coimbatore by defeating Mysore Kings.

Forest College Museum:-
Forest College Museum is located 4 km away from Coimbatore city Railway Station has numerous rocks, minerals, pests, snakes and microorganisms. There is training provided for forest rangers and also museum has rare species of dead animals and plants.
Amaravathy Reservoir:-
Amaravathy Reservoir is the major tourist attractions of Coimbatore, has Crocodiles and different fish species. It is established for the reason to keep up the ecological balance of the region and is considered the biggest crocodiles and fisheries reservoir in South India.
Patteeswara Swamy Temple:-
Patteeswara Swamy Temple is a main worship place as well as the tourist attraction situated at the border of Noyyal River. The Temple was made with top architecture of Dravidian and it is located in the village Perur 6 km away from Coimbatore City.
VOC Park and Zoo:-
VOC Park and Zoo is a children favour park containing the models of golf swing, dinosaurs, train safari and see-saw. Aquarium and mini zoo are the main attractions of the Park and was named after V.O. Chidambaram, the famous freedom fighter.
