History of Lansdowne
The place was named Lansdowne in the year 1887 after the then Viceroy to India, Lord Lansdowne. The place developed under Lord Lansdowne’s administration. During the year 1887, the place Lansdowne witnessed the arrival of the first regiment of the Garhwal Rifles from Almora. The place formed the most important training center for new recruits in the Garhwal Rifles regiment in those days and it still exists. Lansdowne was one of the famous hill stations among the British. During the British Raj era, many historic events associated with the National Freedom Struggle took place around Lansdowne.
