History of Aizawl

The history dates back to the year 1890, when an officer of Assam Police Dally came with his 400 men troop to support Colonel Skipper’s troupe that was holding an operation against the tribal’s in the present Aizawl. Dally asked Skinner to build a fort here, thus were constructed buildings and stockades by the troops. The tribal uprising in 1890 and 1892 was suppressed by Mc Cabe. Gradually Aizawl city became the main headquarters of the 1^st Assam Rifles.
