During the beginning of the 18th century, Baranovichi was a village with name ‘Baranowicze’ as a private property of Rozwadowski, a Polish family. Baranowicze became the part of the Russian Empire during the end of the 18th century in the result of the Partitions of Poland. It was named after the Baranovich family in the 1870s and achieved town status in the year 1883 with a population of 2,000 residents.
