Johor Meaning & History:

The word Johor was derived from Arabic word “Jauhar” referring to gem or a jewel. Johor was ruled by Sultanate of Johor during 16^th century, until the Portuguese invaded the region around 1511 A.D. In the 18^th century Johor was ruled by Bugis of Sulawesi, but in the 19^th century a major rivalry between the two rulers dominated the scene. During the Second World War, Johor was the last city to fall prey in the hands of Japanese who attacked the region.
