Bochnia is located in the southern part of Poland in Bochnia County in Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Bochnia is situated on the banks of river Raba and renowned for its salt mine and administrative capital of Bochnia County. Bochnia is bounded by Brzesko, Klaj, Wieliczka, Nowe Brzesko, Szczepanow, Tarnow, Trzciana, Borzecin, Krakow and Nowy Korczyn and situated at the distance of 310 kilometers from Warsaw, capital of Poland and economy of the town is mainly based on tourism and salt mining industries. Bochnia coordinates are 49.9667° N, 20.4333° E.

 

History of Bochnia:

Bochnia was established as a small village in the year 1198 and it is one of the oldest cities of Lesser Poland. Salt mine was started in 1248 and during the German rule in the region they named the region as Saltzberg. Bochnia became one of the prominent location due to the salt mine and during the 14th century town hall was constructed under the rule of Kazimierz Wielki King and from there many churches, hospitals, and education institutions were established.
