Chiba is the capital city in Kanto region situated about 40 kms south-east of Tokyo, is one of the busiest sea ports in this part of the country. Chiba holds the Guinness Book of World Record for the longest suspended monorail in the world. Chiba-Meaning & History:
The word Chiba is derived from Japanese word meaning “thousand leaves”. The name was adopted by group of Taira community in the late Heian Era who shifted to present day Chiba. The first inhabitants or the settlers to visit Chiba were Taira Tsuneshige who settled in Chiba between 1083 A.D. to 1088 A.D followed by son who ruled the place from 1118 A.D. to 1201 A.D. In the 16th century, Hara clan dominated the region and later during Edo Era, the place was ruled by Sakura clans who took control of the region for some time. Finally Chiba became a part of Japan in the year 1992.
