Etymology and History of Dhanbad:-
Dhanbad is the original name of Dhanbad, derived from two words Dhan (paddy) and Baid (land). The literal meaning of Dhanbad is ‘Paadyland’. Dhanbad witnessed the travel of the famous person Hieun Tsang.
British Empire established Anumandal Office in Govindpur Block, one of the historical places in Dhanbad. Dhanbad was formed as district on 24 October 1956 and before the creation of the Jharkhand State, it was in Bihar State and served as the district headquarter.
