Gisenyi is a city coming under Rubavu district in the Western Province in the central-eastern African country, Gisenyi. The city is located on the northeastern shore of the Lake Kivu, between 1°42′ S latitude and 29°15′ E longitude. Gisenyi is a tourist favor city, holding three sandy beaches and offering different water sport activities. Gisenyi is also the site of the only brewery in Rwanda, Bralirwa. Gisenyi houses the campuses of Kigali Independent University and Rwanda Tourism University College. Gisenyi covers an area of 11 sq. km and its elevation measures 1,481 meters. Gisenyi is located around 150 km northwest of Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.
How to reach Gisenyi?
Gisenyi has an airport but currently there is no airline serving the airport. So international tourists are needed to reach Kigali International Airport first and then take bus or airport taxi to get Gisenyi. This airport covers many world destinations like Brussels, Amsterdam, Doha, Istanbul, Douala, Dubai, Entebbe, Johannesburg, Mombasa, Nairobi and Addis Ababa.
Buses are regular between Gisenyi and Kigali from dawn to dusk. The city of Gisenyi can easily be explored by foot. Motorbike and taxis can also be used.
