Jipijapa also called Xipixapa is a county situated in the province of Manabi in Ecuador covering an area of 1,420 km ². It is believed that, the people belonged to the ethnic Manteno-Huancavilca were the indigenous people of Jipijapa. The Spanish founded their settlements on August 10, 1565 and it became free from Spanish rule on October 15, 1820. Jipijapa was formed as a canton on June 25, 1824.
