Jipijapa also called Xipixapa is a county situated in the province of Manabi in Ecuador covering an area of 1,420 km ². It is located around 455 km southwest of Quito, the capital of Ecuador and 145 km northwest of Guayaquil, the largest city of Ecuador. San Lorenzo Jipijapa is the main settlement in Jipijapa.

Geography of Jipijapa:

Jipijapa lies on the west coast of the country between 1°20′ south latitude and 80° 35′ west longitude with an average altitude of 200 meters. Jipijapa is bounded by Montecristi canton in the north, Puerto Lopez in the west and Guayas province towards south.

History of Jipijapa:

It is believed that, the people belonged to the ethnic Manteno-Huancavilca were the indigenous people of Jipijapa. The Spanish founded their settlements on August 10, 1565 and it became free from Spanish rule on October 15, 1820. Jipijapa was formed as a canton on June 25, 1824.
