Kenya is an African country, situated in the African Great Lakes region at 1.2667° S, 36.8000° E. Kenya is bordered by Tanzania towards the southwest, Uganda towards the west, Ethiopia towards the north, South Sudan towards the northwest, Somalia towards the north-east and its southeastern part is located on the equator with the Indian Ocean. Nairobi is the capital and largest city of Kenya.

In terms of population, Kenya is the 31st largest country in the world (around 44,037,656) and the 49th largest in area (581,309sq. km). When comes to tourism, Kenya is one of the prosperous countries in Africa, mainly noted for its safaris at national parks and beaches including Kilifi, and World Heritage Site, Lamu are also famous among continental and overseas tourists.

 

History of Kenya:

As like the most African countries, Kenya had also come under the reign of the European powers, including the British, who ruled Kenya from 1888 to 1963 when Kenya’s independence was proclaimed. Kenya became a republic country on 12 December 1964. During the British rule, the name Kenya was pronounced ‘Keen-ya’.

 

Getting Kenya:

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is the gateway to Kenya, situated around 15 km away from the centre of the capital city, Nairobi. This airport nearly covers all the important global destinations including the Indian cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

Kenya’s railway network is limited only for its domestic destinations, no international connection.  By bus, Kenya meets some Eastern African countries including Uganda and Tanzania.

Covering an area of 9,065 square kilometers, the Tsavo West National Park is one of the top tourist destinations of Kenya, mainly known for rich and diverse wildlife, rhino reserve, Mzima Springs and eye-catching scenery. It is in the Coast Province of Kenya.

 

Lake Nakuru National Park:

The Lake Nakuru National Park is famous for flamingos nesting along the Lake Nakuru’s shore. Rothschild giraffes, black rhinos and white rhinos are also the other highlights of the lake. It was established in 1961 and sprawls over an area of 188 km².

 

Nairobi National Museum:

The Nairobi National Museum is the place where tourists can the complete history and culture Kenya. It is open for visitors from 8:30AM to 5:30PM. There is a live snake compound adjoining museum that is great attraction for strong hearted people.

 

Uhuru Gardens:
The Uhuru Gardens commemorates the independence of Kenya from the British. It is the Kenya’s memorial park, featuring a 24-metre high monument, the focal point of the garden.
