Kerben or Karavan is a town and a district headquarters for the Aksy district that is in the province or Oblast of Jalal-Abad in the CIS country of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. Kerben is located to the North West of Mountainous country of Kyrgyzstan and around 195 Km North West from Provincial city of Jalal-Abad and around 500 Km to the South West of the capital city of Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan. Uzbekistan is just across the border to the West of Kerben.
Kerben located around 1300 meters above sea level in the mountains regions has mostly plain lands cultivated with wheat crops and grazing and rearing of various domestic animals in their Steppes and farm lands.
The climate is generally continental with very warm summer and cool winters and the temperature varies from day to day and the best time to visit Kerben is during spring and summer from April to September.
History of Kerben in Kyrgyzstan:
Kerben was part of the Soviet regime in late 18th and 19th century till the formation of Kyrgyz Republic in 1991. Kerben or Karavan the name of the town is derived from the word caravansary, which was part of the Silk Route used by the traders to rest in caravansary, a type of hotel for both men and animals to rest during their journey to Europe from the far eastern countries.
Kerben is known for the Tulip revolution that took place in 2005 to over throw the rule of the corrupt government by the opposing parliamentarians in order to establish clean and stable government.
