Malargue is a city located in the Mendoza province of Argentina between 35°28.5′ S latitude and 69°35′ W longitude. It belongs to the Malargüe Department, is situated about 370 km south of Mendoza city and 1160 km from Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.

Malargue is towards the southwest part of the province physically positioned at an elevation of 1402 meters. Malargue features a relatively dry and cold climate and enjoys winter from May to September.

Malargue is renowned for its chivito (traditional dish) and annual events such as the National Festival of the Goat and Provincial Festival of the Lamb. The major landmarks of Malargue are Pierre Auger Observatory, Malargüe Station, Clock Tower and Las Animas Well.

Connectivity to Malargue:

Malargue has its own airport but it is limited to Las Leñas hotel’s guests only. The San Rafael Airport is the nearest frequently working airport to Malargue, situated at a distance of 180 km with connection to Buenos Aires, operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas.

Malargue is around 400 km away from Governor Francisco Gabrielli International Airport in Mendoza which operates scheduled flights to Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Rosario, Tucumán, Salta and San Carlos de Bariloche.

Malargue is also connected with San Rafael and Mendoza by buses, taking 2 hours and 5 hours respectively.

To get around taxis are useful, costing US$ 1-2 per person.

The Pierre Auger observatory is an international cosmic ray observatory located in Malargue. It was established to search ultra-high energy cosmic rays, constructed between 2004 and 2008 and was named in the honor of the French physicist Pierre Victor Auger.

Las Animas well is a typical wide well. It can be reached by taxis or rented cars or cycles.

Clock tower:

The Clock tower is the major landmark of Malargue situated in the heart of the city with clocks.

Malargüe Station:

Malargüe Station is ESTRACK radio antenna constructed for the European Space Agency, placed around 40 km from the centre of Malargue city. It was hoisted on 7 December 2011.
