Mazyr is a city situated in the Homiel Province in Belarus, around 135 km southwest of the provincial capital, Gomel and 280 km southeast of the national capital, Minsk. Mazyr is basically an industrial area holding one of the largest oil refineries of Belarus.

 

Geography of Mazyr:

The city of Mazyr lies on the right bank of the River Pripyat at an altitude of 160 meters between 52°03′ N latitude and 29°15′ E longitude. Mazyr covers a total area of 44.1381 sq. km.

 

History of Mazyr:

Mazyr is a historical city which was earlier part of the Duchy of Vladimir during the middle of the 12th century and later came under the control of the Duchy of Kiev in the following years. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania occupied Mazyr in the 13th century. Mazyr was taken by Duke Michał Gliński as a donation in the 15th century and later developed it into a town.

Gomel Airport is the closest airport to Mazyr that is served by Belavia with seasonal flights to Kaliningrad, located around 145 kms from Mazyr.
