Pauri Garhwal is a district in the Indian State of Uttarakhand. Pauri town is the district headquarters of Pauri Garhwal District. The district occupies an area of 5,399 sq. km. and is located between 29.80° N latitude and 78.74° E longitude. Pauri Garhwal is situated about 210 km southeast of state capital Dehradun.
Pauri Garhwal is surrounded by Rudraprayag district in the north, Almora district to the east, Haridwar district on the west, Dehradun district towards northwest, Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh to the southwest, Nainital district on the southeast and Chamoli district towards northeast.

History of Pauri Garhwal:
Earlier Pauri Garhwal district was a division of Garhwal Kingdom ruled by the famous Pal dynasty. Gurkhas conquered the lands of Garhwal by defeating the King of Paul Dynasty ‘Pradyumna Shah’ in the year 1803. Later British Empire took over Gurkhas in 1816 and ruled Garhwal till the Independence of India. Pauri Garhwal was formed as a district in the year 1960 carving out from Garhwal District.
