Mandalay Region is an administrative division in the center of the country, Myanmar in the Mandalay region. Mandalay forms the capital of this region. Mandalay region was formerly known as Mandalay Division. Mandalay Division falls to the North of the capital city of the country and economy for the region mainly depends on Agriculture and tourism. Mandalay region spans over an area of 37,021.29 km2. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 2100’ N and 95045’ E.

History of Mandalay Division:
During the 1st century, the Pyu speakers hailing from Tibeto-Burman region were the first settlers in this so formed Mandalay Division. Over time the region was ruled by other dynasties before the arrival of the British. When the place was under the British administration, the upper region of Myanmar was divided into 7 divisions. The places falling under these divisions are: Mandalay, Federated Shan States (both South and North), Meiktila, Sagaing and Minbu. The administration of Kachin state presently falls under Mandalay division. The division Meiktila was merged with Mandalay division in the year 1940. At the time of the Second World War, Mandalay was under Japanese control from the period of May 1942 to March 1945. 4th January 1948, witnessed the end of the British rule in Myanmar and marked the beginning of a new era in the history of Independent Myanmar.
