Banjarmasin is the capital city of South Kalimantan in Indonesia located on the banks of Barito and Martapura rivers and also called as the “River City”. Banjarmasin is one of the fast growing cities in Indonesia and there are various industries helping in the growth of economy of Banjarmasin.

History of Banjarmasin:

Banjarmasin was ruled by Nan Serunai kingdom and later it was taken over by Tanjungpuri of Buddhist kingdom and Banjarmasin was also the part of Hindu kingdom. The Dutch founded the sea route to Banjarmasin and started the trade in the year 1606 and British ruled the region for several years. From the year 1930 Banjarmasin started to boom in all sectors.

This is one of the huge mosques constructed in this region in the year 1981 and it renowned for the decorated interiors. This mosque is the second largest mosque in Indonesia.

This is one of the famed museums in Banjarmasin and visited by number of tourists throughout the year and there is rare collection of artifacts which draws the tourist interests.

 

Floating Markets:

This is one of the unique markets in Banjarmasin and tourists need to hire a boat which takes nearly 15 min to reach this place from Banjarmasin and tourists can select various stuffs from this region and can have breakfast as well.
