History of Barquisimeto:

The history of Barquisimeto dates back to 1552 when it was founded by Juan de Villegas with name Nueva Segovia de Barquisimeto, later shortened to Barquisimeto. Barquisimeto played a major role during the independence movement of Venezuela.

Barquisimeto Museum:

The structure of Barquisimeto Museum was initially founded in 1579 as San Lazaro Hospital and later it was rebuilt as La Caridad Hospital in 1877. Then hospital moved to another site in 1939 and the empty building was converted into a museum few years later.

The obelisk:

The obelisk was constructed in 1952 to commemorate Barquisimeto city’s 400th anniversary, designed by the engineer Rafael Jose Rag. It measures a height of 75 meters.

Juares Theater:
