Ciudad del Este is located in the Alto Parana department and it is the second largest city in Paraguay country. Ciudad del Este was established in the year 1957 and was named as Puerto Flor de Lis and region is seat of Roman Catholic Diocese of Ciudad del Este.

Ciudad del Este is located on the banks of River Parana and at the border of Brazilian city Foz do Iguacu which is connected through Friendship Bridge. Ciudad del Este is spread over a total area of 40 square miles (104 square kilometers) and farming and smuggling are the main form of living in and around the region.
