History of Drobeta Turnu Severin:

Drobeta-Turnu Severin derived its name from the tower located on the north side of Danube River constructed during the Byzantines times. Drobeta-Turnu Severin became one of the renowned regions during Roman Rule due the construction of the bridge by Apollodorus of Damascus and the bridge was completed only in three years. Drobeta-Turnu Severin was declared as the city during the rule of Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD). Severin fortress was constructed in 1077-1095 and many battles were fought to capture the fortress between many rulers. Later Ottoman captured the region and ruled for several years and after the fall of Ottoman, the city was reconstructed in the year 1829.
