Hvar is an island in Croatia country in the Adriatic Sea, situated in the middle of Brac, Vis and Korcula Islands. Hvar spans an area of 114.815 square miles (297.37 square kilometers), the highest elevation is 628 meters (2,060 feet) above the sea level, Hvar, known for its fertile coastal plain and fresh water springs and hilly region in the islands are covered by pine forests with vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards and lavender fields and economy of the island is based on fishing, marine activities, agriculture and industries.

Hvar is surrounded by Brac Island, Vis Island, Korcula Island and Trpanj Island and Zagreb, capital of Croatia is situated at the distance of 460 kilometers from Hvar. Coordinates of Hvar are 43.1333° N, 16.7333° E.

History of Hvar:

Neolithic people were the first inhabitants on the island and later in 4^th century Greeks established the colonies on the island and named the island has Pharos. Roman captured the island in 2190 B.C and renamed as Pharia and after the fall of Roman rule, the island was controlled by Bisantium and later occupied by Slavic tribes, Narentines, Kingdom of Croatia. In the 12^th century, vines and wine cultivation was popular on the island introduced by Republic of Venice and later the island was ruled by Kingdom of Hungary. French attacked the island in 1806 during the Napoleonic War but later the island was captured by British Army.

Town Square is the main landmark of the city, is one of the most beautiful and largest squares in the country covering an area of 4500 square meters and fort is situated on the top of the hill near the square.

Cathedral of St. Stephen:

Cathedral of St. Stephen is situated in the Town Square constructed in the 16^th century and 17^th century is the most stunning monument known for its architectural design in the island.
