Monteverde is a town in Puntarenas province in Costa Rica. Monteverde is surrounded by numerous reserves and identified for eco-tourism attraction in Costa Rica. Agriculture is the main source of income in the town and tourism sector is growing rapidly helping in the growth of the economy of the town. Monteverde was preserved as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Costa Rica and one of the must see town in the country.

Monteverde is surrounded by Esparza Canton, Puntarenas Canton, Juntas, Pocosol, Cascajal and San Ramon and located at the distance of 106 kilometers from the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose and coordinates are 10.3143° N, 84.8250° W.

History of Monteverde:

Monteverde was the farming village around 3000 BC with small tribal people. The Spanish arrived in the year 1502 and gold mining in the country was full time occupation for some people and during the 20^th century, Creole tribe arrived in small numbers and was employed in gold mining and later 1950 onwards town saw many migrants from various cities.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve:

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the prime attractions in the country and well developed and maintained natural attractions and tourists can view the native flora and fauna in the reserve which attracts thousands of tourists throughout the year.

Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve:

Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is located at the highest elevation reserve canopy level covered with a cloud which provides moisture which maintains the unbelievable selection of flora. The Climate in the reserve is pleasant throughout the year with lots of moisture.

Butterfly Garden:

Butterfly Garden is situated near the Pension Monteverde Inn, the garden is full of Costa Rica’s most gorgeous species and butterflies are preserved and grown here.

World of Insects:

World of Insects is located in Santa Elena which has around 30 terrariums surrounded with some of the interesting insects and admission fee is $ 10 per person and open daily from 9 am to 7 pm.
