History of Palembang:
Palembang was ruled by Srivijaya, of Buddhist Kingdom who was then ruling Indonesia, Malaysia and Southern Thailand but in the year 1025, this region was captured by Chola Empire, Rajendra Chola I of Southern India. Srivijaya’s capital was moved to Jambi and later in the year 1619, Dutch established the city and constructed the major port in the city along the Musi River and as this region was rich in pepper production and export.
