History of Rakvere:
According to the historians, it is believed that the region was inhabited since 3rd-5th centuries AD on the hill of Theatre. In the year 1268, battle of Wesenbeng took place near the town between Danish and German knights and Russians and the large castle was constructed in the year 1346, by Danish Estonia. The town was damaged during the Livonian War from 1558-1581 under the Russian rule. Later in the year 1605, Swedish reconstructed the castle.
