Tafilah is a town in Tafilah Governorate in southern part of Jordan, is acknowledged for its greenery surrounded all over the town and Tafilah is rich in natural resources like Phosphate, Copper and Manganese and there are number of industries situated in the city and Tafilah Technical University, which was established in the year 1986 is the only university in the region.

Tafilah is bounded by Jurf Al Darawish, Al Hasa, Karak, Feifa, Safi, Petra, and Maan and it is located at the distance of 200 Kms from capital of Jordan, Amman. Zip code of Tafilah is 66110 and coordinates are 30.8400° N, 35.6000° E.

History of Tafilah:

Tafilah was inhabited since Palaeolithic period and the oldest kingdom established in the city was Edom and the capital of Edom was Busairah. Later Tafilah was taken over by the Nabatean kingdom and by Roman, but it came under the Muslim rule but later was captured by Crusaders. During the battle of Tafilah Arab and Alled Forces destroyed a strong Turkish force near Tafilah.

Tafilah is historical city and tourist can come across various historical monuments in the city located on the mountains, though it has a number of tourist attractions only few tourists turn up to the town as there is no proper road connectivity to Tafilah town. Tafilah is surrounded by the mountains and natural resources and there various natural sites in the town. Aqaba Port is located at the distance of 190 Kms from Tafilah, tourists coming through sea route can reach Aqaba port, the only port in Jordan and the busiest port in the Town.

By Road:

Tafilah is connected through roads but roads are not developed in the Town and tourist can find number of buses, taxis and cars to travel various parts of Jordan.
