The currency of Turkmenabat is known as Turkmen New Manat (TMT). Dasoguz, Ahal and Mary form the neighboring province with Lebap province in Turkmenistan. The Lebap province also shares its borders with countries like Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

History of Turkmenabat

During Medieval times Turkmenabat was known as Chardzhou. This word was derived from Persian language and when translated into English means, “Four streams”. According to Historians, Turkmenabat was known as Amol. Turkmenabat was once a junction connecting three provinces along the silk route. In the 19^th century, the Russians invaded the region and took it under their control. They constructed the Trans-Caspian Railway link in this region. In the year 1917, a revolution took place between the Turks and the Russians. After the revolution ended Turkmenabat fell under the rule of the Russian communist. The region flourished with commercial establishments opening at various places.
