Urgench is a city in the western parts of Uzbekistan with a population of 139,500 (2003 estimate) and is the capital of the province of Khorezm. Located at coordinates 41⁰32^’60” N and 60⁰37’60” E, Urgench is 91 meters above sea level. Bukhara province is 450 km east of Urgench across the Kyzyl desert. The maximum temperature in summer is recorded at 37⁰ C and the minimum temperature in winter is -4⁰C.
