Johor Meaning & History:
The word Johor was derived from Arabic word “Jauhar” referring to gem or a jewel. Johor was ruled by Sultanate of Johor during 16th century, until the Portuguese invaded the region around 1511 A.D. In the 18th century Johor was ruled by Bugis of Sulawesi, but in the 19th century a major rivalry between the two rulers dominated the scene.
