History of Lida:

Lida got its name from the River Lidzeya which may be derived from the Lithuanian appellative Lyda – Lydimas which means fuse, to cast. The noted history of Lida begins with the construction of a brick fortress by the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas in 1323. Lida also witnessed the rule of many prominent empires including Russian Empires in the past.

Lida is one of the major railway hubs of Belarus, receiving daily trains from the capital of Belarus, Minsk.
