Illizi is a town as well as a commune belonging to the Illizi Province in the southeastern part of Algeria. Illizi is a gateway to one of the national parks of Algeria, Tassili N’Ajjer National Park, which is famous for caves with prehistoric drawings. The town of Illizi houses two camping sites and many hotels to cater to visitors coming to the national park.

Sprawling over a total area of 75,945 square kilometers, Illizi is located around 1750 kilometers southeast of Algiers, the capital of Algeria. Illizi situated around 567 meters above sea level and experiences a hot desert climate with dry and very hot summers and mild and relatively wet winters. How to reach Illizi?

Illizi is served by the Takhamalt Airport, located around 30 kilometers northeast of Illizi. Air Algérie is the only airline serving the Takhamalt Airport with scheduled flights from and to Algiers, Ghardaia and Ouargla.

Located on the national highway N3, Illizi is connected with the bus services to In-Amenas, Touggourt and south to Djanet.

Visitors can hire car and scooter from the tourist agencies near the national park and in the city center.
