History of Augustow:

Augustow came into the existence in the year 1496 and King Sigismund II granted the region as city in the year 1557 and later became the part of Kingdom of Poland. Augustow town was destroyed in the year 1656 by Tatar and during 17^th century the town was attacked by plague. Augustow was declared as county in the year 1842 and railway line was established in the year 1899.
